Happy Valentine's day, Success or Failure ?

Origins

The origins of St Valentine are numerous one legend has it that in early Rome, February 14th, was the day of celebration set aside to honor Juno, the Queen of the Roman Gods and Goddesses. Juno was known to many Romans as the Goddess of women and matrimony.
The following day, February 15th, began the Feast of Lupercalia.

In ancient Rome, the daily lives of boys and girls were strictly separate. One exception was on the eve of the festival of Lupercalia, the names of Roman girls were written on slips of paper and placed into small casks. The young man would draw a girl’s name from the cask and would then be partners for the length of the festival with the girl that he chose at random. Occasionally the pairing of the children lasted a whole year, and sometimes, they would fall in love and would later marry.

St Valentine, a priest in those times, became associated with lovers, continuing to perform marriage ceremonies despite them being outlawed by the ruling Romans at the time.

And the rest is history

Modern day Valentines

We all have choices to consider if  we want our Valentine's day to be a success or failure. conditioned as we are by the stores,  that straight after Christmas we need to start thinking  about St Valentines day, as if they had not had enough of our hard earned money, at Christmas and the temptation of the January sales. However choices we have to make, so lets look at some things that could help to make your Valentines day a success.

Tip # 1

A card can mean so much. Remember the time when everyone you knew received a card on Valentines day and you didn't? Don't let the love of your life experience that same emotion you felt. So be smart and get a card choose wisely, it may surprise you that of all cards that are given a Valentine card is the one that people read.
Making a card has more sentiment attached to it as you can personalize it. so no excuses!

Tip # 2

A romantic meal for two, a great idea, .there is nothing nicer than to spend an evening in your loves company. Be sure to book a table early, check the menu to make certain that the food and prices suit you both.
If you are a good cook then prepare a special meal at home, candles, wine, and don't forget to have an extra large chocolate dessert  to round off the evening.
If your cooking skills leave a lot to be desired, there is nothing stopping you from having a meal for two at home, simply have a take away delivered, but be sure to serve the meal on plates and dispose of the cartons!

Tip # 3

Gifts whether for Him or for Her must be chosen with a great deal of thought, the value of a gift is in the thought not on the price tag! To buy a gift that would be useful in the kitchen or the garage would have little value if the person never used it. Many a wardrobe has a tie or scarf hiding on the rail that has never been worn.
When making  a purchase make it with thought and a sprinkle of love, match the gift to the person . Doing this will give you a greater understanding of the person as you will need to question and make your gift choice based on your understanding and interpretation of their answers.
A simple handmade gift can be worth more than an expensive gift wrapped present from Harrods.

Tip # 4

Giving is better than receiving, not everyone will read this blog (unless of course you share it with everyone you know ) which will mean that some will not make the effort to surprise and thrill their loved one, If this happens to you, take pleasure in the knowledge that you gave not to receive but to give pleasure to the one you love. One thing for sure they will pull out all the stops next year!

heartTip # 5  A surprise makes it special no matter what you decide to do to show your partner that you really care make it special and unsuspected, it will stay in the memory forever.
